Radio BSOTS exclusive clip on Podshow Music Rewind...
Now Playing: burning spear - holy dub
Topic: my podcasts

show #53 of the Rewind premiered this week and i'm representing for Jonny Sonic in an exclusive clip for this episode. my bit's about 14.5 minutes into the show. other contributing podcasters this episode include Jack Elias of Get Jacked!, Mike Wills of New Music Today, Derek The Bandit of Sound Republic, and of course, Marcus Couch of The Scene Zine.

you can go here to check out this episode. just before my clip, Marcus takes a minute to tear Rob of podcast411 a new one regarding some remarks he made on a show recently. amazing the stuff you miss when you're not constantly plugged in...

BSOTS 033 - podsafe picks for 2006 (pt. two)
Now Playing: walking on headshells mix tape
Topic: my podcasts

pretty good lineup of '06 highlights for this episode, all of them courtesy of ioda promonet. big shouts to them for making sure that a podcaster always has great music to play, both new releases and back catalog. respect.

my favorite song on this episode: "chips - chicken - banana split." funky drum breaks, punchy horns, the whole nine. next up would probably be "africa hot!" it's like new school afrobeat - i'm feelin' it. then there's the darc mind joint that i close with. kind of ironic that anticon records would end up releasing that album, seeing as how you can cause hip-hop electronic bulletin boards to go into meltdown just talking about that label. seems like headz either love or hate that label, depending upon who you talk to.

thanks for joining me for another episode. if you're diggin' BSOTS, please digg this show. peace, y'all...

i was wondering when my man Dr. Mark Anthony Neal would get around to writing something about the Godfather of Soul. and of course, he knocked it outta the park, as always. more on-point than a seasoned ballet dancer. read the article here.

BSOTS 032 - podsafe picks for 2006 (pt. one)
Now Playing: chillcast top 20 of 2006 (anjibee.com)
Topic: my podcasts

happy new year, all. for this show, the last episode of 2006, i wanted to take a look back and showcase some great moments in podsafe music. for the music podcaster, there's so much to choose from and i'll never get to it all (never mind all of the music that i want to play and can't), so the next three shows will be dedicated to scanning the surface. all songs within this episode (with the exception of some background music) can be found on the podsafe music network. listen up for the cd giveaway on this show as well as a special holiday shoutout from the hostess of the chillcast. granted, if you're hearing this once it's 2007, it'll probably sound a bit dated. my bad - meant to have to show posted sooner, but the life of a father to a four-month old child is mad hectic.

in addition, the show begins with a brief nod to James Brown. i wanted to record a short spoken eulogy like i did for Dilla back in February, but time and parenthood wouldn't allow for such. besides, what could i say that hasn't already been said? all i'll say is this: George Clinton introduced me to funk, but James Brown remains the ultimate personification for me of what funk music is in theory, discipline, and practice. while his physical remains will be committed to the earth, his spirit lives on forever in his music. within my collection of soul and funk 45s, one name appears more than any other...that name is JAMES BROWN. respect due...

one last thing...if you like this show, please digg this show. thanks much for all your support. and as always, peace, beats, and blessings...

o.p.b. (other people's best of lists) and...the year in racism.
Now Playing: adam curry's daily source code (www.curry.com)
Topic: articles

perhaps by the middle of 2007, i'll actually have my own best of 2006 list done. as for now, here are several others worth reading by Mark Anthony Neal, the always opinionated staff of Other Music (it's an exhaustive list, seems to get larger every year, but always worth reading), and the irreverent and wacky station members of WFMU.

and as an added bonus, a very funny article from comedian Baratunde looking back on the year in racism.

much respect to Marcus Couch of Podshow Music Rewind for reaching show #50. For this special episode, he featured 15 of the most memorable entries from other podcasters. yours truly was included, reppin' for my man Hired Gun. if memory serves me correctly, this is my first submission to PMR.

you can check out the show at the Rewind homepage. just look for show #50 in their feed player...

BSOTS 031 - u.k. double shots
Now Playing: mike lupica's show on wfmu.org
Topic: my podcasts

if i sound kinda "no nonsense" on this one, it was because i wanted it that way. this is a themed show, and i wanted to be about my business for this episode. so it's quite simple, really: three artists from the u.k. two songs from each. all three artists can be found on the podsafe music network.

the other reason for my "no nonsense" tone is...i was recording my voiceovers in the morning before heading off to work, so i was being very conscious of the time. also, it was my first time trying out my new microphone, an M-Audio Nova. MACEY LIKE. can't believe how crisp the voiceovers sounded in comparison to past episodes. the age of the craptacular microphone could very well be over...

gotta do more themed shows - this one just feels right...
