Imus in the morning, Imus in the evening, Imus at suppertime...it's all the rage. LITERALLY.

and so, in a sea of online articles, here are two that washed up on my shores. first off, sister Stephane Dunn gets down on some righteous indignation type stuff and reps for double x chromosomes with kinky domes out there. and then there's Kevin Powell to the rescue, who sums up sex, race, and Imus so beautifully in this article that it saves the rest of us the need to go off about it. damnit, Kevin, you done did it again...

apparently such a twisting of a mass media slogan doesn't just apply to Fox News: check out what happened to an American Studies professor on CNN via this article. seriously jacked up situation...

i was wondering when my man Dr. Mark Anthony Neal would get around to writing something about the Godfather of Soul. and of course, he knocked it outta the park, as always. more on-point than a seasoned ballet dancer. read the article here.

perhaps by the middle of 2007, i'll actually have my own best of 2006 list done. as for now, here are several others worth reading by Mark Anthony Neal, the always opinionated staff of Other Music (it's an exhaustive list, seems to get larger every year, but always worth reading), and the irreverent and wacky station members of WFMU.

and as an added bonus, a very funny article from comedian Baratunde looking back on the year in racism.

when Amadou Diallo was shot to death by the NYPD, black life was worth 41 shots. with the recent shooting death of Sean Bell by the same firing squad, black life has apparently increased by 10 shots.

if this keeps up, we'll be up to 100 shots by 2012. should i be morbidly flattered by this?
